In conjunction with our history unit on Past and Present we are learning some songs from when MRs Jones was at school! A long, long time ago!! The first one we learnt was My Grandfather's Clock and we played some percussion to go with it. The children were amazed by the story that was told by the song. We look forward to learning some more songs over the next few weeks.
Students had a great time on Friday at the Junior Athletics Carnival. They joined the older students for house marching before lunch. After lunch they participated in 6 different activities including long jump, sprints, throwing, relays, the parachute and the earth ball. The weather was lovely, the students were very well behaved and they had so much fun.
It was a perfect day for cooking toast with the rain and cold weather. We cooked toast and english muffins and students had to cut them carefully into halves, quarters and even thirds to share them with friends. This showed students about the maths in our real lives! Partners were quick to point out if they hadn't got an equal part!
Maths groups in 1J is a time everyone enjoys. On Tuesday we made shapes out of playdough and cut them into halves, quarters and even thirds!! We also used our favourite maths app Targeting Maths learning about fractions and community tutor Stuart helped us complete a worksheet about fractions being equal parts. No wonder everyone likes it!
